As we get older, our appearance begins to change and mature. Sometimes this change can take a toll on our self-esteem because with aging comes wrinkles and sunspots that weren’t exactly there a few years ago. Thus, a really good beauty regimen may be one of the things that can help us feel good about ourselves.

Mature skin is still the same skin we had when we were younger. It has just become thinner and less elastic due to the lack of collagen. However, cleansing is just as essential now as it was then, especially if you use makeup. A good cleansing oil as a first cleanse and a gentle cleanser as the second cleanse can do wonders for the skin in terms of hygiene and product penetration. Also, being clean just feels good. Speaking of feeling good, something that can make the skin feel amazing is adequate hydration. That means toners, serums and moisturisers that act as a refreshing glass of water to the skin. Ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Snow Mushroom, Amino Acids and many more are great at helping the skin look and feel wonderful. As they say, hydration truly is the key. It helps the skin maintain its natural barrier, diminishes the appearance of lines, wrinkles and dullness, prevents dryness, itchiness, inflammation and sensitivity, and is rejuvenating. With that aside, the most important thing in skincare for everyone regardless of age is the use of sunscreen. Sunscreen prevents sun damage and skin cancer with the technology of UV protection. Although you may think your sunspots and wrinkles couldn’t possibly get worse, without the use of sunscreen, they absolutely can. Hence, why it’s important to actively apply sunscreen from an early age.

However, to target those issues specifically at the convenience of your own home, good retinol (Vitamin A) product is recommended. Vitamin A is proven to be the best at helping reduce the appearance of discolourations and wrinkles but it does require some patience. Something else that can also speed up skin-cell turnover like retinol is chemical exfoliation with AHAs and BHA. However, as previously mentioned, mature skin is thinner than younger skin. Too much exfoliation may lead to damaged skin that is red, sensitive, peeling, and painful. A gentler and quicker way to exfoliate is with the use of an exfoliating cleanser. This is perfect for naturally sensitive skin and mothers on-the-go. If none of these work, it’s best to seek professional help in targeting your specific issues.

Also, with the skin around the eyes and on the lips being the thinnest, paying close attention to those areas can definitely help you achieve a youthful look. Beauty and personal care go hand-in-hand. Taking care of ourselves may get tiring sometimes but it’s worth it in the end.
